Description

We have numerous users reporting that after some recent updates, Pocket Casts keeps pausing every few seconds when using wireless Android Auto. The issues do not occur when they switch Bluetooth off, so it sounds like the Bluetooth connection is sending some sort of command to pause playback.

In our internal discussion at p1738325401040009/1738324786.080269-slack-C02A333D8LQ, it was mentioned that the issue is likely due to #3297

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  1. Test using Pocket Casts on a car with Wireless Android Auto (unclear how to emulate)
  2. Try with Bluetooth on vs off

9374445-zen (1-star Android App review):

I used to love this app. But for the last two weeks I have been unable to use it on Android Auto. It will play for a few seconds and then pause on its own. Press play and it plays for a few seconds and pauses again. It is unusable. I didn't change anything to cause it to do this. I tried everything "Google" said to no avail. None of my other audio apps have this problem. It sucks because I really like the interface. 🫤

To clarify with this bug report, if you turn Bluetooth off while using wireless android auto you will have no audio, as such, it does not resolve the issue. This bug does not appear when using wired android auto where Bluetooth is utilized.

I am experiencing similar behavior. I use AAwireless (v1) for wireless Android Auto. Things were working fine until a recent app update. Now if I pause any podcast, when I resume it will play for less than a second before pausing again. This can happen for a total of 3-6 times before playbill continue without pausing. FWIW, I am playing downloaded episodes where there is usually no connectivity.
