Is there a good reason for the GPL license, the dependencies allows for MIT as far as I can tell.

I would suggest going with the MIT license for next release.

Its only because initially I borrowed some pipewire boilerplate from helvum which is GPL3, which technically makes pw-viz a derivative, and requires it be GPL. I would personally prefer MIT too tbh.

If you could identify what boilerplate parts that still remains based on Helvum I could have a look at it, if it is just the interface to pipewire, and no business logic borrowed, I think it is fair use to release pw-viz under MIT, but you have to take that decision. One can also ask the Helvum people for permission if you think that is necessary.
