Error with "azd up": it couldn't find the function app

Very strange: it seemed to successfully provision, but then could not find the function app for deployment:

When I looked at the resource group, I didn't see the function app listed, but I do see the function app when I navigate to it by following the links in the deployment page.

It's like it's there but not there?!

I tried "azd up" again, and it still can't find it, and I still don't see it listed in the RG, though I can navigate to it directly.

I just tried again, and I think its going through. Is there some sort of lag affecting functions being discoverable in the RG?

Thanks for reporting the issue. This is interesting - I personally haven't come across it before, but it sounds like I might've been lucky. Wondering if others on the team have seen this before too. I'll look into it

We can also ask the azd team if they've seen this - @vhvb1989 have you all seen incidents where azd can't yet find the resource in the resource group, even though its there?

I do remember similar scenarios.
Azd depends on the Azure Resource Graph for tag-searching resources.

I just looked into azd's code and we don't have any retry logic during resource search (by tag), so I have created an issue: Azure/azure-dev#5580 to help with this.

@pamelafox Out of complete curiosity, how long did it take for the functions to show up? I hope it wasn't on the order of minutes.

@vhvb1989 It was on the order of minutes, yes. I did a lot of poking around, retrying, etc, before it finally worked. At least 10 minutes, I would say.

I check with @anthonychu and @nzthiago - they've see this issue before. My understanding is that there's a bug in the policies run by ARG that deletes the tags. Thiago filed an issue about this and it was fixed in the Microsoft tenant. Perhaps that's why I haven't encountered it myself? (I've been testing pretty extensively because I was trying to add the APIM biceps and haven't come across this issue at all.)

Ah I am running in a 90-day tenant, not the Microsoft tenant. Would customers experience the bug in there tenants?

@pamelafox - just to confirm, were you seeing the tags there but the error still showed up or were the tags removed?

When I navigated to the resource manually, it did seem to have the tag. However, the resource group did not list the function app resource. So it seemed like a lag between the resource group knowing about its children, if that makes sense?

yes, you're right. Since the tag is still there, it's likely a different issue. I'm looking into why there's a lag between the tag created and querying for that tag.
