This dates back to problems with this article. For some reason, the photos for that article were failing to upload.
Hi tech/photo friends,
We are experiencing difficulty uploading certain photos in the "BONUSing" process. We don't know what the issue is, since we are attempting to upload JPEGS and the error message that comes up when we try to do this (which is kind of off the screen), says that the system only excepts certain file types of which JPEG is included.
Reuploading didn't work, creating a new article didn't work. But other photos were fine at the time, and I haven't heard of any issues since.

could just be the disk was being wonky because I did a backup last night at 1AM
or it could be file size, it’s supposed to handle uploads up to 1.1MB (which is hilariously low) but sometimes it chokes on smaller files if they’re less compressible
