Thank you, @naveensingh. From that ticket:
The clear benefit is that the screen isn’t flashing at you, changing all around, when you’re just trying to enter a phone number. Maybe you aren’t personally bothered by it, but I find it completely unusable.
I do not want “dialpad search results”, ever. If I wanted to search, I’d use a dedicated search feature, which in truth I’d never use. There is a Contacts tab for searching for contacts, and that’s perfectly adequate.
That’s incorrect, as there’s a Contacts tab. Edit: But even if that was true, Google gives us a Contacts app for contacts, which can initiate a call. So the Contacts tab is redundant already, and showing the contacts above the Dialpad can only serve to irritate, annoy, and possibly send epileptics into seizures. |

When I’m trying to dial, I find it distracting and irritating when every single digit I press creates a flashing change on the screen above the Dialpad. All I want to see is the dialpad. If I wanted to select a contact, I’d have started out on the Contacts tab.
I think Google forked this project, and made some minor tweaks, because their newly released phone app is almost identical. I went to F-Droid looking for a better phone precisely because Google’s new phone app shows Contacts on the Dialpad.
