Recording Misalignment

Hello,

I am trying to create a project using https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/develop/unity/qr-code-tracking-unity and it works. Though QRCodes can be succuessfully detected by hololens and the outer frame (the marker) aligned with the QRCodes, they are misaligned in the video, which I recorded by hololens windows device portal. Do you have any suggestions on how to solve the problem?

Hi @AndyMai0210. This unfortunately is always the case with any HoloLens recording and has been an issue since HoloLens 1. Its caused by the fact the the webcam in not between your eyes, but a bit above. This causes an offset (optics buffs call this a parallax effect) between what you see and what you record. MRTK2 had an option to mitigate this but I don't think this in MRTK3 anymore. You can mitigate it a bit by looking at a straight angle at the QR code, and looking from a bit larger distance.

I saw your marker perfectly match the QRCodes when it was detected in https://localjoost.github.io/Positioning-QR-codes-in-space-with-HoloLens-2-building-a-'poor-man's-Vuforia'/. I wonder how you made it, or you basically follow "looking at a straight angle at the QR code, and looking from a bit larger distance".

I see. No, that movie was made using the very, very first version still built with MRTK2. See?

That had an experimental options that fixed the recording offset issue, but that started to break down in newer Unity versions, so apparently they could not port that over to MRTK3
