Remove support for .NET 9

When .NET 10 is released, Microsoft will stop supporting .NET 9 and so it should be removed from CSLA.

I believe .Net 9 will be supported until May 12, 2026, six months or so after .Net 10 is released (It is 18 months for STS items). Should we keep support in CSLA until then?

This is why removing .NET 9 is in the 10.1 project, with the assumption that the 10.0.0 release will still need to include .NET 9 (and maybe .NET 8?).

Yes. Interestingly enough .Net 8 is on LTS so it will still be supported after .Net 9 goes out of support. When .Net 10 is released there will be three .Net versions still in support: 8, 9 and 10. Then 9 will go out of support and several months later 8 will go out of support (about the same time .Net 11 is released, which is not a coincidence as far as I can see).

As to our conversations about how MAUI is different and should be on a different release cycle, it also has a different support cycle. MAUI 8.x is already out of support. Only MAUI 9.x is still supported. So perhaps we should remove the .Net 8 MAUI support whenever we release the next MAUI package.

I thought 10 was LTS and would replace 8, so 8 goes away when 10 comes out?

Yes, the MAUI cycle is not the same as the overall .NET cycle, so we need to accommodate that.

No. There is a LTS release every other year but the support timeframe for a LTS release is three years. So .Net 8 (LTS) that was released in Nov 2023 is supported until Nov 2026 (when .Net 11 is released). This link shows it on a nice easy to read chart:
