Getting started recommends using rpm:
npm install @skiplabs/skip

Does not seem to work for me, but
yarn add @skiplabs/skip does

Also not clear what steps are intended to be performed in the skip repo, vs in an existing project to experiment with adding skip.

I assume you ran npm install @skiplabs/skip at the root of this repository? If so, it probably failed because the local packages would shadow the published ones, and you should have gotten an error similar to:

ld: cannot find -lskipruntime-0.0.19: No such file or directory

while attempting to build the local skipruntime-ts/addon. This is expected, although not ideal (cc @jberdine, as this is related to the discussion we had the other day).

The Getting Started page should probably clarify that it is intended for using the skip framework (hence no checkout of this repo is needed), and not for contributing to it.

Later in getting started: the examples below are from this repo, so it's natural to progress to trying to install from within the repo.

This guide aims to give the high-level ideas of how to write and reason about a Skip reactive service. You can see and run the full example here, along with a corresponding web application and client.

This is a fair point. Those "examples" are more akin to integration tests than actual skip-powered application examples (as they implicitly rely on the current unpublished versions), so I am not sure the docs should point to those. The ones in examples/ (at the root of the repository) are actual self-contained examples.

Regardless, the current situation is a bit hostile to new users, so we should improve it.
