How to extend this pattern for functions?

Here is the pattern that is responsible to define what to highlight as a function in most programming languages supported by ecode:

It will work fine for my_func() but will break with my_func () (notice that there is a space between the function name and ().

The problem is some coding conventions recommend the usage of the later.

The result is none of the functions are highlighted with code following these coding conventions.

You can use [%a_][%w_]*%s*%f[(] to accept spaces between the word and (. In V1 seems to make sense (I saw the problem, but didn't change anything), but I don't like it to have it by default on most languages because it will end up marking as a function things that aren't.

The patterns for functions on V1 (which are copied from PHP):

No, that's HTML/XML (the main language), and it's for coloring tags.
You're looking in the wrong place. You need to modify V1Core. Change line 57 with the pattern I mentioned..

Btw this will make any if ( being highlighted as a function, that's why I never use that in other languages. You can fix it by adding a pattern matching before this one that matches those case and highlight as a keyword and not a function the word, best way to do it is with regex, something like this (i don't know the actual keywords that need to be here):

This will match any of the words in the group optionally followed by any number of spaces (including 0) and followed by a "(".
