Proton-CachyOS (repo) is a modified version of Proton developed by the creators of the CachyOS distribution. I've had a positive experience using it and would recommend considering its addition, if possible.

Edit: and if also possible to allow it to be installed on both lutris and heroic

The reason proton-cachyos exists is because we wanted a version that didn't depend on the Steam runtime, but is running on the host system outside of pressure-vessel. As such it contains modifications that wouldn't allow it to be built as a redistributable until now. Recently we decided to start providing Steam Linux Runtime based releases which can be found here. At this point it is not decided yet that we want to keep doing this. If this is going to become a regular release, I will let you know.

I am not free for some time anyway so you have plenty of time to decide that.

@loathingKernel Any news regarding the fact to make Proton-CachyOS a more permanent thing?
I can see you guys are still pushing releases, but I just want to make sure before adding it to my application.
Thank you!

I wanted to write here a few days ago, but needed some more time to normalize things in our repository. We are going to keep doing these releases. Seems like anti-cheat games really don't like when things are not built with the Steam Linux Runtime, so we will keep doing these too.

Two things come to mind that probably need attention.

  • We compress our releases with xz instead of gzip, because it saves around 200MB so depending on how this application handles extracting, it might need some adapting.
  • The second one is that we have two different versions, one for x86_64 CPUs, which is the same as Valve and GE, and we have an x86_64_v3 version for more recent hardware. In the future, if we successfully test it, we might even have an znver4 version. I do not know how you would want to handle that, as the x86_64_v3 binaries is not compatible with earlier x86_64 CPUs
