Getting started (in Linux/Fedora)

I'm struggling to follow the documentation to get started. Is there a quick start guide somewhere that actually give sample code to type to compile a single example file? I'm having trouble with libraries, I think.

Sure.
I have followed the instructions on the Integration - Installation - Build from source - Dependencies page.
So I have: g++, cmake, gnuplot, then a whole load of Fedora version of libraries, like libjpeg-turbo-devel, libtiff-devel, fftw-devel, libpng-devel.
I then tried the straight Installing instructions on the Build and Install page.
I suspect the issue is that I'm not used to using 3rd party / external libraries so not sure what to do next.
The install seemed to go fine, sudo cmake --install ran with no errors.
Next I took the plot_1.cpp example and tried to compile it but was getting errors, first with matplot::linspace not defined.
Then I figured out that I needed to somehow load the library and by trial and error found that "-lmatplot" in compilation solved that:
g++ plot_1.cpp -lmatplot
got past the linspace error.
But next I get some error about png_create, perhaps related to CImg. So I think I need to be loading a load of libraries on the command line, but I can't find the documentation which tells me which ones I need to load.
Using an installed library is a new process for me, so I may just be missing something simple. Any help would be great thanks!

(I did also try Windows, but that was much worse and I didn't get this close, so gave up)

I've since tried the answer here: Stack Overflow Question

this gets past the CImg issue. And g++ now compiles with the -lmatplot argument.
However the executable now says:

error while loading shared libraries: libmatplot.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Any ideas?
