The Carbon community works to be welcoming and kind among itself and to others,
with a deep commitment to psychological safety, and we want to ensure that
doesn’t change as we grow and evolve. To that end, we have a few ground rules
that we ask all community members to adhere to:
The following summary is intended to help the community understand what kinds of
Code of Conduct incidents were brought to our attention lately, and how we
dealt with them.
Publishing such transparency reports on a regular basis is helping us track
progress and hold ourselves accountable to high standards of community culture.
Summary
In the third quarter of the year 2024 our community has been almost exclusively
self-moderating, very few interventions being needed to keep collaboration
constructive and kind. Our project contributors are living up to our high
community rules and communication standards. Congratulations everyone!
Meanwhile, we have slightly less people signed up on our Discord server than
in the previous quarter (4,893 members when this report was published) and
more contributors on GitHub than before: 154 people already contributed to
Carbon directly. We’re very happy to have these new contributors on board!
Our moderation and conduct group is now 11 people strong, including our
community lead who serves as their guide, trainer and coach. One team member
left the moderation team and will keep contributing in other ways.
Our moderation and conduct team members are contributing from 3 different
continents.
Our AutoMod bots are automatically catching the use of some harmful language
and spam, which helps us focus on the educational and conversational part of
our moderation role.
In Q3 2024, our AutoMod bots have only caught and blocked one message containing
harmful language. No spam was posted and caught during that period.
Please note that some incidents may have escaped our attention. You can help us
keep our spaces welcoming and fostering a spirit of collaboration, and report
any situation that may require our intervention:

Our interventions from 2024-07-01 through 2024-09-30
destructive, and asked the user to remain respectful in our spaces.
potentially harmful.
Closing observations
Moderation work, including both manual and automated work, did not demand as
much attention as in the past, everyone on board focussing on constructive
contributions.
We will use this opportunity of having light moderation needs these days to
level up in terms of moderation competence in Q4 of 2024:
We want to be ready to welcome the next wave of contributors soon, which may
come from very different backgrounds, with different expectations and habits.
So, we will educate ourselves and train our “moderation muscle” further.
We’ll keep watching and providing support when needed, and are hoping for more
contributions from new members, while keeping it friendly and kind at all times.
Thank you all for your contributions, exemplary behavior, and see you around!
The Carbon Code of Conduct team, 2024-10-09
