Recording timestamps in logging should be optional feature?

#649 has introduced timestamps in logging output, but users need to specify with the argument --timestamps. I don't see any reason to keep this function optional. Any ideas?

I would support enabling it by default with the option of disabling it. Sometimes you don't want timestamps, such as when you have another logging system recording logs and adding its own timestamps.
