This guide is for serious diagnoses, hereditary risk, and caregivers. Choose how involved you want to be. That level can change.
Agency is practical:
- Keep a copy of every important record.
- Write down dates, units, sources, and questions.
- Ask clinicians to explain the options and uncertainties.
- Record each major decision and what changed afterward.
- Check AI output against the original file or primary source.
Bring the care team a short update. Include what changed, the new report, and the open decision. Ask for the reasoning and the next review point.
If an answer stays unclear, ask again. Request another clinical opinion when you need one.
Use AI to:
- organize approved files;
- transcribe a report for your review;
- compare a new result with the current profile;
- map claims to sources;
- draft questions for an appointment;
- collect research leads for review.
Diagnosis and emergency assessment require qualified clinicians. Discuss treatment choices with your medical team.
For urgent symptoms, contact a clinician or local emergency service. Do not wait for an AI answer.
Verify every name, date, unit, and value against the original record. Models misread scans and fill gaps.
Use a second model to catch obvious mistakes. Then check the source. Models can repeat the same error.
Bring treatment-relevant findings to a clinician. Phrase them as questions.
Follow research when it helps with a real question. A research watch can miss papers and misread results. Open the primary source before saving a claim.
Skip this work when time or energy is short. Ask a family member, advocate, or care team member to help if you want it done.
Begin with two or three key records. Draft twenty lines of 00-current-state.md. Add sources. Check the facts. Make a new version when something changes.
I built this workflow during my own treatment. The background is in Information Body.
