High Level User Story
As someone who builds content and features on VA.gov, I need to know the information architecture standards so that I can follow proper guidance for site structure, navigation, labeling, and search to help visitors find information and complete tasks.

Problem Statement
As Sitewide IA continues to build and iterate on standards related to organization structure, navigation, labeling, and search, we need to make sure the information is available to all designers, developers, and writers.

General approach and process for creation of guidance and standards:

  • Gap in standard or opportunity to improve documentation is identified and added to the IA standards list on GH to prioritize
  • Guidance is created through discovery, collaboration, and design work,
  • Guidance is reviewed with IA CoP for feedback and approved by OCTO IA Lead as well as other OCTO design leads as needed
  • Placement of new guidance is determined
  • Final documentation of standard or guidance is created, reviewed, and published

Current status of various standard efforts, in progress notes and documentation, and general working information is available within the standards folder of the IA product GH section.

@strelichl The work in this epic is being done by CAIA IAs as well as other IA resources. If we want to merge this ticket with content standards work, that's fine, but all the child tickets need to be moved and I'd like to be added to the new epic so I can continue to oversee the IA efforts.

Keeping IA standards work separate as a collaborative effort between CAIA, Platform Governance, and Health Cartography teams.
