Same machine-ID on every install

Hi,

I encountered an issue with multiple boxes. I like your Linux so I installed it on multiple boxes but DHCP wants to give every box the same IP even if the MAC address is different. I found out that every box has the same machine-ID. Would it be possible to add in the image something like dbus-uuidgen --ensure=/etc/machine-id so every box would have a different one?

Yes and no.

Yes, I will fix that every 'burned' media gets its own unique machine-id.
I actually always delete /etc/machine-id right before packing an image file. But apparently that is not enough, so I will also delete /var/lib/dbus/machine-id in future images. That should be enough to force Debian to recreate a new, unique machine-id.

But no: at this time I will not reset the machine-id after emmc-install. Because most people that use my images are no Linux experts, so will only have 1 box and they expect the ip address to be the same after installation to emmc. By resetting the machine-id, this will break in many cases. For experts: you know what you're doing, fix it yourself when you have multiple boxes ;-) Or just burn an image for every box you want to install.
