taxonomy function

The taxonomy function - which was present on the now discontinued CRAN version, appears to be absent here. Will it make a comeback?

Well, this is a bit of a tricky issue. The reason we removed this function is because it depended on the taxize package which has been archived on CRAN. Sice we were planning to resubmit myTAI2 to CRAN, we cannot depend on archived packages. So if you have a good compromise workaround then our team is happy to look into it, otherwise it would need to be removed for now.

Ha ha, I suspected something similar. My solution has been to copy the old function to my old code (with proper credit) and to install an old version of taxize. But I will be keeping an eye open for myTAI2 ;)

I saw just today that taxize (https://github.com/ropensci/taxize) is back on CRAN. This means you can use the old taxonomy() function by following the re-opened discussion vignette on taxonomic retrieval (which should hopefully be up soon #63 ). (I assume the information in the vignette will not be new to you but I am writing here for other users with similar issues).

Meanwhile, we have been exploring other packages for the taxonomy() function for the CRAN re-upload but I think this is not an issue now that taxize is back.

But I will be keeping an eye open for myTAI2 ;)

Yes, there will be loads of new exciting stuff!

Yes absolutely, reinstating the taxonomy() function in myTAI2 would be fantastic!

Your short how-to tutorial on how to build a taxonomy() function from scratch will help users to be intependent of any CRAN policies :)
