I encountered some issues installing LANLGeoMag on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS.
I resolved these issues by applying the changes found in the libLanlGeoMag.txt git diff file.
I'm reporting this in the hope that it may be helpful to other users.

Thanks for the report, and apologies for the late response.

There are a range of different issues wrapped up here, each of which would potentially cause problems for different users. I've addressed some of the automake related concerns in #58 (alongside updating IGRF). That then builds under automake 1.17 with Python 3.12, using GCC versions 9 through 11.

Many of the other changes are likely to be former compiler warnings that raise errors in more recent compiler versions. While the current codebase had some of this type of issue addressed in order to ensure that LANLGeoMag would build with recent LLVM-based compilers (Intel and Cray), there are still a number of these that need to be taken care of in a systematic way. #55 was starting to deal with compiler warnings alongside stricter code style, but I'm now thinking I should separate those efforts into different branches. I'm hopeful I'll have some time available to continue that work in the near future.

I'm leaving this open to maximize the chances of folks seeing it in case they have specific issues that aren't addressed in #58 (which should be merged soon, leading to a v2.1.0 release).
