This file isn't a contract — it's a friendly set of expectations for anyone participating in the OpenFOV project. The point is just to keep the project a place where people enjoy contributing.
- Be kind. People are at different skill levels, on different hardware, in different time zones, and dealing with different stuff in their lives. Default to charity when someone asks a question or files a bug.
- Be constructive. "This doesn't work" is less useful than "this doesn't work — here's what I tried." Critique ideas, not people.
- Be patient. This is a side project. Maintainers and contributors respond when they can.
- Be specific. "It's broken" is hard to act on. Logs, screenshots, versions, and reproducible steps make everyone's life easier.
- Personal attacks, name-calling, harassment, or targeted abuse — whether public or in DMs related to the project.
- Discrimination or slurs of any kind.
- Sustained disruption of discussions or repository activity.
- Posting other people's private information without permission.
If you see behavior that's making the project worse, you can:
- Reply in the thread and steer it back to constructive territory.
- Or email the maintainer at epalosh@icloud.com with the link and a short summary.
There's no formal review board. The maintainer reads reports, applies common sense, and may edit comments, lock threads, or block accounts when something obviously needs it. This is judgment-based, not legal-grade — appeals are also just an email.
This applies to interactions in this repo (issues, PRs, discussions, comments) and anywhere else where you're representing OpenFOV.
The spirit here borrows from the Contributor Covenant without copying its formal language verbatim. We're going for "be a reasonable adult" rather than legalese.
