Collection expansion: add modern and contemporary sculpture beyond ancient relics #16

Description

@gfs

Curatorial gap

The collection has strong ancient physical objects and temple sculpture, but sculpture is mostly archaeological: masks, crowns, votives, friezes, ledgers, instruments, and ritual tools. MoSFA still needs modern and contemporary sculptural practice: public sculpture, kinetic work, installation, minimal/object sculpture, and material experiments native to shrimp-folk bodies and reef architecture.

Agent task

Develop a sculpture-focused mini-expansion of 3-5 accession-ready works that broadens sculpture beyond ancient ceremonial objects.

Deliverables

  • New image assets and src/data/artworks.yaml entries.
  • Use existing eras where appropriate, especially Modernist Tank, Pop Art Aquarium, Abstract Currents, or Ancient Shrimp Civilization; introduce a new era only if absolutely necessary.
  • Suggested categories: Public Sculpture, Kinetic Sculpture, Installation Sculpture, Minimal Objects, Material Studies.
  • Include at least one work that reads as a museum object/installation photograph and at least one work that reads as civic/public sculpture.

Curatorial constraints

  • Sculpture must have credible material logic: shell-concrete, coral alloy, pressure glass, pearl inlay, tide-polished stone, current-responsive forms, or jointed exoskeletal construction.
  • Avoid making every piece a figurine. Include abstraction, mass, material, scale, and site.
  • If referencing human sculpture movements, preserve their formal language; if original, make the shrimp-folk cultural use visible.
  • Keep anatomy and object ergonomics believable for bipedal shrimp-folk bodies.

Acceptance criteria

  • At least 3 new published works expand sculpture as a distinct curatorial area.
  • The additions do not duplicate the existing ancient object program.
  • Metadata uses stable era/category names and clear museum-ready descriptions.
  • npm run build succeeds.
