Details on Vim integration

Readme mentions Vim as one of the options, but it's not straightforward to me how to do that. Is there a working example on how to set this up with "vanilla" vim + e.g. Ale or any of those frameworks?

Target: "small to medium" vhdl codebase for AMS designs.

For #73, I was able to setup for neovim, but I haven't seen any help for vim.

It's been a few months, but I just got it working and I'd like it to be useful for someone else if possible

What I did was:

Step 1. Build GHDL

Note

I'm not 100% sure building from source is required. May depend on whether or not your system package for ghdl was built with --enable-libghdl or not.

Built GHDL from source with LLVM adding the --enable-libghdl flag:

git clone https://github.com/ghdl/ghdl --depth=1
cd ghdl
./configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-libghdl --with-llvm-config
sudo make
sudo make install

This required llvm and clang.

2. Install pyGHDL

At the cloned root (clone and cd if you didn't build from source), run pipx install ., or simply pip install . if your system package manager is okay with that.

3. Add a little environment variable

I added export GHDL=$(which ghdl) to my .zshrc, since ghdl-ls complained it couldn't find ghdl

4. Configure coc.nvim

Finally, add this to my coc-settings.json (since I'm using CoC):
