secure install

Secure installation in /public. I can't install it properly so that the installer recognizes it and creates a custom path as mentioned in the user documentation. I am using cPanel without vvveb plugin (my hoster has not installed it).

Var 1. set webroot to /public, then I upload to /public latest.zip, unzip it, and change the lines, but during the install it notices
Var 2 Set webroot to /public, then I upload latest.zip to /, unzip it and want to install, then the installer does not find it.
Var. 3, like Var 2, I change env.php and .htaccess and copy .htaccess and index.php to /public, the rest stays at / doesn't work either.
Var 4, I set webroot to /, upload latest.zip, unzip it and change the lines, but then public does not exist?
Where am I doing something wrong?

This is probably a Litespeed specific issue, with apache or nginx it should work fine if all steps are followed https://docs.vvveb.com/installation#secure-install
