Project Maintenance and Future Plans

I’ve noticed there hasn’t been much recent activity on the Statesman gem, including several open PRs that haven’t yet been reviewed or merged, and I wanted to check in on its current status.

A few questions that might help the community plan ahead:

• Is Statesman still actively maintained?
• Are there plans to review and action the existing PRs?
• Would you benefit from additional maintainers to help share the workload?
• If it is no longer a priority for GoCardless, would you consider transferring it to a community-owned namespace so it can continue to grow?

I ask because Statesman is widely used, including in production systems I work on, and clarity on its future would help people decide whether to keep building on it or plan for alternatives.

Thank you for all the work that has gone into the gem so far. It is a valuable tool and I would like to see it continue to thrive.

We still actively use Statesman at GoCardless so its in our interests to keep it maintained.

In regards to the existing PRs, some of these are quite old by now - I'll take some time to go through them and see what is still relevant.

For ongoing maintenance, let me take this to our engineers and see if we can come up with something to improve the maintenance process. Is there something immediate you're blocked on?

Thanks for coming back to me, and for the 13.0 release too!

My query was more a general one. It's always a bit concerning when something as big as Statesman, or backed by a company like GC goes unmaintained. It's often (clearly not always) a precursor for it being dropped.

However, given it is such an important gem to so many projects, does it make sense to have a maintenance team around Statesman that goes beyond the GC walls, so it's not always incumbent upon the team there to keep things moving?

I'd welcome a conversation around that, and happy to put my hat in the ring too.
