Thoughts on Ignoring Articles (A, The) When Sorting by Title

I was just wondering if it would be a feasible feature request to ask for a setting to ignore leading articles when sorting by title alphabetically. I suppose an alternative would be to rename these books and move the articles to the end, preceded by a comma, but that seems like somewhat of a hassle.

I think I'd want a setting like this globally, but with an ability to over-ride it on individual books. Some books have a significant A, The, This, etc at the start, but mostly, I would want the words ignored for sorting.

I have a book called #Selfcare that should sort in "S" for instance, and a "9 from the nine worlds" that I would like to sort under N. Without having to alter the display title.

Though, maybe adding a "sort title" would be a good option, as I have seen in AV systems like Plex and Jellyfin. If there's no sort title, the title is used.

Sort Title is what Calibre uses, and the algorithm they use is pretty robust.

I agree with this, I think "Sort Title" is the best option here. Most flexible and I think it would cover all cases.

I would probably combo this with the user settable prefix ignore shown below as well as the comprehensive solution.

Yes! I would love to have this as a feature.

This is how Audiobookshelf handles it for example:

I've never used Calibre so I don't have experience using a Sort Title. But I would rather not have to manually create a sortable title for 242 books in my library.

I like this, much preferred it having user settable vs out of the box as this would cover different languages as well.
