Emacs 24.4 has eww (in-Emacs browser)

w3m looks dead.

eww is not beautiful but it is built-in and works. And we can hope for improvement there. And it does not depend on anything outside.

My impression is that w3m is still widely used by other emacs modes & users. I use it to handle html email & epub files. Historically it was enough faster that the elisp alternatives to make a large difference is usability (say, 4 years ago, when I compared). I haven't tried eww, though. I'd prefer to keep the w3m support for now.

I don't know what w3m is like, but eww isn't really suitable for reading Haddock documentation (I've given in and just go back and forth between my actual browser and Emacs). It's been long enough since I tried it that I don't recall all the particular pain points, but if memory serves a lot of it was to do with the various stylings, etc. found in Haddock pages.
