No high-level documentation  #5

Description

@dkfellows

Just having a look through, as part of easing into working with you guys, and I noticed a total lack of explanation of the very basics:

  1. What does this do?
  2. Why would I use it instead of another alternative?

There's no high-level summary, nor an explanation of what the Unique Selling Point (USP) is. What is the benefit over, say, just writing some basic Python scripts? (I really want such a benefit to exist!)

In general, there are many sorts of documentation, from developer guide to user tutorials. Good documentation has to cover many aspects, for many different roles (users, developers, managers, funders, general public, etc...)
