Section numbers not added

When I click on "Auto Markdown Sections: Insert/Update", nothing happens and I don't have numbered sections. Adding the TOC that way worked so there is something wrong about the numbering.

Any hint?

For info, I am using VS Codium 1.71.0 (user setup).
