Segmentation error when trying to start hyprpaper v0.8.3 on Arch+Hyprland setup in a Hyper-V vm

I get the following error when I try to start hyprpaper

ERR from hyprtoolkit ]: Wayland platform cannot start: Missing protocols
Segmentation fault          (core dumped) hyprpaper

Same happens for me :c
Installing wayland-protocols doesn't fix the issue

it seems the following issue is exclusive to Hyper-V vms
