Hi 👋,

I'm creating this discussion so I can gather feedback about the bookings feature, introduced in 1.45.0.

In its current state, it is only a foundational bedrock for the feature, nothing more.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on its role, how it could be used, and most importantly, how it could best serve everyone's interests so I don't end up developing something on my own that turns out impractical for everyone.

• Is it enough in its current state? If not, why?
• How would you envision using this? If not useful, why?
• What specific workflows or options would make it most useful for your needs?

😄 Ooh this booking thing is looking pretty good! I only just played with it and not moved everything over from my trip I am still working on.

There is onetwo think I am missing:

• allowing PDF or image attachment for any booking confirmations/reservation documents.
• trip view -> filter -> option here to toggle the bookings line

Thanks for the feedback, absolutely doable, I like the ideas and they have no impact on the underlying architecture or the future direction. The bookings can easily have their own PDF files attached, and it doesn't change anything whether they are ultimately linked to a plan, a day, or a place 👍

I wonder if small images could be directly display, might be cool to say attach a small QR or barcode image you get on some tickets/bookings and have it show up directly if you tab the booking on the top.

Although It's probably impossible to detect and adding a extra checkbox or something seems clunky.

Just having a pdf/image attached like on plan item is probably sufficient for now.

Another thing that comes to mind, bookings should be toggle on a partial shared trip.

My immediate thought is that being able to associate it with a place (ex: airbnb info) or plan (ex: waterpark visit) would be great.

If associated with a place, the booking would remain where it is and then have a link to that place, and if associated with a plan, perhaps it could move to sit just above that plan in the plans timeline.

Just some ideas!

That's exactly what sparked this thread 👍. I did consider linking it to a plan, but it ends up adding unnecessary complexity for little payoff in my opinion. Linking it to a place seems complicated, and I struggle to see how that would be implemented conceptually. Regardless, it’s the type of architectural decision that is very hard to walk back once it's taken so thanks for sharing your feedback!

What is the purpose of this feature if I may ask? How do you use it yourself?

That's kind of the point of this thread! Not to do things my way, but to ask the community for once 😓.

Usually, I develop something to meet my own needs, and community gives me feature requests that I may or may not implement depending on the model changes.

Here, my goal is just to lay the groundwork for the topic, and then move forward together. This is something I envision to do everytime now. But depending on feedbacks, it might not work and I'll go back to how things were.

How do I plan to use it? Initially, I thought about linking bookings to plans, listing all reservations at the top (as is currently the case), and even offering automatic searches (e.g., Search Hotels.com for hotels near XXX).
The goal was then to add a new button Bookings on the top-right (near days and places) to display all bookings at a glance and get details on click 👍.

I find it a bit of double. But it can be useful to be a at gloance linked to the plans you create.

I‘m not sure if I’m understanding the bookings feature correctly. I‘d love to have my hotel bookings linked to the days I’m in the hotel. But then the bookings would need to stay on the night - not day. Like when i‘m on a trip 4th - 6th June. I would love to add a hotel booking to night to 5th and night to 6th?
Currently I’d leave the 4th empty or just type in ‚Home‘ and add booking to 5th and 6th day. Or how do you guys track hotel and accommodation?

Having hotel bookings be for individual days is confusing and time-consuming. I think it'd make more sense to provide a Check-In and Check-Out date (optional time) and autofill all the days in between. Then I know what my base is for that leg of the trip. Hotels are associated with nights, not days.
