but i see in code it works through SOAP API?

Theis code is to create a rest api . You can use it to connect to magento 1 soap API . Keep in mind that Magento 1 already has an API , This code is intended allow you to connect via just http request without any php .

There is default Magento REST API, and there is your Magento REST API which works through default Magento SOAP API

What are the advantages of using your REST API, and in which cases it should be used?

The issue i see: default Magento REST will be faster, cause it works directly. And yours work through SOAP, and SOAP is known to be slower than REST.

What I am saying is you can add the api to your server where your have php and if you need to connect from a place where you only html and js example an hybrid app you send a request via http post and get a response in json . I hope this clarify thing for you
