Crashes when I click the menu bar icon

Describe the bug
I can launch the app. The icon appears in the menu bar. I click the menu bar icon. The icon disappears and I can see a Crash Report in macOS's Console.

Expected behavior
The app is shown and I can enjoy its glory.

System (please complete the following information):

• Device: MacBook Pro 14-inch, 2021
• OS: macOS Ventura 13.4.1
• Platform: Apple Silicon M1 Pro
• App Version: 0.6.0 (also tried 0.5.0 – same behaviour)

Additional context
If needed, I could add the Console's Crash Report.

Thanks for reporting this! Yes, if you could send the crash report from Console and any other relevant logging that would be very much appreciated.

Also, which webcam(s) do you have attached to your system?

Today I noticed that, without my camera connected, the app doesn't crash. It then only shows the internal Facetime camera which it of course can't manage. I'm trying to use it with an ELP USB camera, model ELP-USBFHD01M-SFV(5-50).

Any chance you would be able to build and run Viewfinder in Xcode and share the stacktrace and point of failure there? Unfortunately doesn't look like I'm able to get much information from the crash report.

Sure. When I run the app in Xcode, I get a

Darn, okay. Would you be able to test in Xcode again, this time using this branch and let me know what the real error is like before?

If you're feeling adventurous and have any ideas of your own, contributions are welcome, of course. I don't have your particular camera so it's tricky to go back and forth to debug.

Nice! The app doesn’t crash anymore, it shows the camera image in the preview pane. Unfortunately, the toggles and sliders don’t work / show any effect.

I’m currently successfully using the command-line utility uvc-utils, so I guess, the camera is not the problem.

@M165437 Would you be able to use USB Prober and save the output produced for your camera? Here's a zip with USB Prober inside: USB Prober.zip

USB Prober is an Apple application that used to ship with Xcode but can now only be downloaded from the Apple Developer site. If you prefer to get a copy yourself, you can download the latest version of IOUSBFamily Log here. The package should not be installed, but USB Prober is located inside IOUSBFamily-683.4.0.pkg via "Show Package Contents" → Contents → Archive.pax.gz → DevTools → Hardware.

Will likely need to right click + open as the app is no longer signed.
