Please forgive me if this isn't the right place for this report.

LM 22.2 Cinnamon
Kernel 6.14
AMD Ryzen 5 5500
AMD Radeon RX 580

I received an update notification on the 19th that there were updates for my nVidia drivers. This was surprising to me, since this PC has never had an nVidia card in it. Searching the logs I found that aptkit had installed nVidia drivers on 16 October 2025.

Start-Date: 2025-10-16 16:41:28
Commandline: aptkit role='role-install-packages' sender=':1.537'

I'm not sure how to parse "Commandline: aptkit role='role-install-packages' sender=':1.537'" so I don't know the origin of the install command.

From the log the other day, where I purged nVidia, I assume that if the command had been through the terminal there would be a "Requested-By" entry.

Start-Date: 2025-12-19 13:44:57
Commandline: aptkit role='role-install-packages' sender=':1.112'
Upgrade: nvidia-kernel-common-580-server:amd64 (580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.2, 580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.3), libnvidia-compute-580-server:amd64 (580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.2, 580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.3), nvidia-firmware-580-server-580.95.05:amd64 (580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.2, 580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.3)
End-Date: 2025-12-19 13:45:08

Commandline: /usr/bin/apt purge *nvidia*

Purge: libnvidia-compute-575-server:amd64 (575.57.08-0ubuntu0.24.04.3), nvidia-kernel-common-580-server:amd64 (580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.3), nvidia-prime-applet:amd64 (1.4.6), libnvidia-compute-580-server:amd64 (580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.3), nvidia-firmware-580-server-580.95.05:amd64 (580.95.05-0ubuntu0.24.04.3)
End-Date: 2025-12-19 13:59:38

I assume there is a bug somewhere in the haystack that called for the nVidia install, but whether it is with aptkit or "sender=':1.537'" (whatever process that is) I don't know.

I am willing to dig around my system to find more information if you want.

Thank you for everything you do. It is appreciated.
