Change locale via gsettings doesn't work

Distribution: Bazzite 42 (KDE Plasma 6.3.5)
Package version: maliit-keyboard-2.3.1-10.fc42.x86_64

Since maliit hasn't it's own settings modal (...) on desktop systems the locale has to be changed via terminal.

gsettings set org.maliit.keyboard.maliit enabled-languages "['de', 'emoji']"
gsettings set org.maliit.keyboard.maliit active-language 'de'

If i read the values, they are exactly the same as set by the commands above.

Sadly this doesn't work; The keyboard remains to english + emoji. I already talked to the devs of my distro. They say, that they haven't altered anything. The package is the default one of Fedora Kinoite which bazzite is based on and the issue must be with maliit itself.

sadly not... "gsettings get org.maliit.keyboard.maliit active-language" says "de" but the keyboard layout remains English.
