Like for Debian, a project-sourced OpenRC init.d (and assorted conf.d) would be easier to maintain for various distributions, cope with newly introduced options (like -D), optimize checks, etc...
Gentoo's one & others may surely benefit from a reference project-issued version (avoid systematic key generation at startup if -r option is fed, etc...).
