Reproduction Steps

play a video file that has this issue with command:
mpv --no-config --hwdec=yes video.mkv

Expected Behavior

video should play fine

Actual Behavior

video has visual artifact as shown in picture
(which is the same pattern for all the videos that have this issue)

I carefully read all instruction and confirm that I did the following:

• I tested and confirmed that the issue exists with the latest release version or newer.
• I provided all required information including system and mpv version.
• I produced the log file with the exact same set of files, parameters, and conditions used in "Reproduction Steps", with the addition of --log-file=output.txt.
• I produced the log file while the behaviors described in "Actual Behavior" were actively observed.
• I attached the full, untruncated log file.
• I attached the backtrace in the case of a crash.

This looks suspicious to me, can you also see if issues with hwdec=vulkan persist if you recompile mpv against the runtime ffmpeg version? I tested this to not cause any issues

I have no idea how to do that.
hwdec=vulkan is bad
hwdec=vaapi is good.
but I thought the best option was to use hwdec=auto and let mpv decide.

In the next update mpv will prioritize vaapi over vulkan by default. For now, you can set vaapi yourself to fix this.

Can you check if the following gstreamer command works? It should use vulkan to decode the video and output it:

gst-launch-1.0 filesrc location=test.mkv ! matroskademux ! h264parse ! vulkanh264dec ! vulkandownload ! videoconvert ! autovideosink

Replace test.mkv with your file.

If it works with gstreamer but not mpv, report this to ffmpeg. If it doesn't work with gstreamer either, report this to Mesa

or if you can reproduce it yourself, you can report it too as you are more familiar with the system of bug reports and technical issues and terms and have a very easier time reporting it than me (a noob user that has no idea what is wrong and just

I can't make the report as I can't reproduce the issue with vulkan myself. Making a report is trivial, there's a template just fill it up with the info it asks. Once you've done so, please link the issue here as well
