Hi @mtth yes, something like the avro extension. I googled around for a orc file reading library for python, but no good luck. Have you ever done anything like this before?

Got it. I'm not familiar with the format but it would indeed be good to have. I'm not sure I'll have time to work on it in the near future but I'd be happy to include related contributions.
