Can't add space after a word

This is a strange bug—perhaps related to how snippets are handled?

When I write well, pressing space afterwards does not add a space. Instead, the cursor remains affixed to the end of that word. I can, however, advance by clicking option + space.

I also can't find any documentation about where FT sources snippets. Is there a list that users can customize for FT specifically, or does it pull them from the system preferences Keyboard => Text list?
