Somehow not all the needed files are being located by KFX Input. Not sure why if they are still in their original folder structure. |

The file you need to import will be in Items01, not in a subfolder of it. |

Wow. Ok. I thought everything in Items01 was a subfolder.sdr, but now that I SCROLL WAY DOWN, I see a bunch of .kfx files. I really hope this is my STUPID issue. Let me try that. I can't believe that i need such specific instructions here. I really am a smart person. :) |

As an aside, I run an Android emulator – Bluestacks – on my PC and it hosts an old version of the PC Kindle reader. With this I can download in the emulator and then transfer the files to Calibre – with appropriate plugins – and then save them locally &/or transfer to my Kindle.
Bit long winded perhaps but at least this way I have an archive of Amazon books I’ve purchased locally ‘for ever’ and so whatever they get up to in future won’t affect my collection.

I'm trying to figure out a new way to download my Kindle books since Amazon is getting rid of the "download via USB" option. I thought I could try sending the book to my kindle, then connecting via USB and importing into Calibre and then finally converting to another format. I've been saving a copy of EVERY book I've ordered from Amazon since 2009, so I've been going the other way (download from Amazon, import into Calibre, send to Kindle via USB) since then with no issues. I have the DeDRM Tools 10.0.3, and also installed the KFX Input (2.19.0) plugin. I was able to insert into Calibre, but it doesn't appear that the DRM is being removed. Is this something that I SHOULD be able to do? If so, I'll get a log output and submit the issue area, but I didn't want to do that if what I'm trying sounds unreasonable. I like having a local copy of my books in case my Amazon account disappears one day.

I'll have to look into that new option. I tried downloading from Kindle for PC (it took ALL NIGHT to pull in as many books as it is allowed, which is not all), but I found that version of the app cannot download the .kfx books. I read somewhere else to NOT upgrade to a newer version. We shall see how hard this kfx import from the device method is. I believe I'm also going to start purchasing from kobo instead of Amazon. It is a PITA, because I will have to look up every book in calibre to determine if I already have it, but anything to actually keep my books. I wonder if Amazon is aware of how many people are going to move to other platforms because of this decision. Someone suggested Kobo readers are good, so I may look there next time I want to upgrade. |

The kfx from Kindle for PC 2.4.0 (70904) can be decrypted, but nothing more recent. This post gives all methods currently known to work for the moment: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361503 I buy most of my books from Kobo. You can download books with ADE and decrypt them with DeDRM or download their kepubs with Kobo Desktop (or their ereaders) and decrypt them with Obok. And their DRM-free books really are unencrypted unlike Amazon's KFX format. I've liked all the Kobos I've had over the years better than any Kindle. |
