How do i make it run longer for hours - it keeps stopping and telling me next steps? Claude code doesn't do this

When I give it detailed prompts and plans, instead of executing the whole plan, it keeps stopping every 20 mins to tell me the next steps instead of working autonomously. Claude code can run for hours on its own, and test and loop on its own. I cannot get codex to do this. Can you help?
