Funding for community projects? #9

Description

@benjamingr

So, in the past I've tried several times to approach underprivileged populations in my area and try to get them involved in the Node.js project.

Namely:

  • Etheopean-Israelis who are often discriminated against but represent a large contributor potential. Through non-profits like Tech-Career.
  • People from the peripheral areas with less access to education through magshimim which is a really cool non-profit that also buys the involved population a laptop to code on.
  • Haredi Israelis (ultraorthodox) to help them integrate.

This has resulted in several contributions to the project but I would rather not call out individual contributions publicly (for obvious reasons).

It would be really cool to get funding to possibly:

  • Fly 1-2 other collaborators over to do a code & learn style event together.
  • Swag for participants (and maybe venue/snacks).

Of course - whenever I do these things I appeal to corporate sponsorship first though that isn't always possible and we've had to cancel events in the past because of it.

I am not making a concrete request to get funding but rather trying to understand if these sort of initiatives align with how you envision the fund being used.
