Describe the blog post

As data continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, optimizing vector search pipelines has become more critical than ever. Binary vectors play a vital role in this regard, offering significant performance advantages in use cases where speed and reduced storage requirements are essential. The OpenSearch Vector Engine has supported binary vectors through the FAISS engine since version 2.16. Now, we’re taking this capability even further by leveraging advanced CPU instructions from the AVX-512 instruction set, available on Intel Gen4 and newer processors. These processors, available in AWS’s r7i instances and beyond, unlock even greater performance gains.

In this post, we’ll explore how these cutting-edge processors can enhance your OpenSearch workloads and help you lower your total cost of ownership (TCO).
