Making content available in the Fediverse would align well with the "sharing knowledge widely and freely"-philosophy of Universities. It would help with discoverability which is a real problem for institutional data-repositories.

An implementation should probably be compatible with Peertube.

I was surprised that there is no feature request for this yet. Do you think it would be useful?

While some media may be released under an open license, in my experience, the large majority of the content is only available to the students of a particular class. That is not to say this integration should not be implemented. After all, Opencast has already been integrated into some regional open educational resource repositories (e.g. edu-sharing and OERSI in Germany). However, I'm not sure if there is a University that would fund this work.
