How to protect sensitive environment variables when working with git in cloudflare project?

In order to access to environment variables in a cloudflare app we should put them inside wrangler.toml file. But since I do not want to commit those sensitive data inside the wrangler.toml file so I wanted to know if there is a elegant solution for this problem?

Instead of wrangler use a .dev.vars file and ignore it on git

when using .dev.vars and deploying for production it does not set environment variables automatically. how to solve this problem?
