The ci/run_task.sh script is getting a little gnarly. It is relatively simple glue code, but shell script can get difficult to maintain fast. It might be worth converting to something like xshell. It would still be glue code, but xshell is a familiar language (rust), gives us a little more type safety and structure, and remains cross-platform.
