• Introducing and thanking speakers
• Timekeeping and signaling to speakers
• Helping wrangle questions (e.g. "Please make sure your question ends in a question mark, and isn't being asked primarily to make a point")

• If it's possible to be flexible, ask speakers how they wish to be introduced. They may have worked a self-introduction into their slides, in which case your introduction can be kept short!
• Double check name pronunciations
