Guidelines for speakers #58

@joshtriplett

Description

@joshtriplett

We need recommendations and samples for speaker guidelines, covering common issues and pitfalls, along with tips and alternatives. These include:

  • Common inadvertent CoC/inclusiveness issues:
    • Don't say "guys" or "guys and gals" or anything similar, those aren't inclusive; try "folks", "Rustaceans", or similar instead.
    • Avoid terminology like "master/slave", use things like "primary/secondary" or "primary/replica" instead.
  • Common technical/presentation issues:
    • Make sure your slides are easily readable from the back row. Don't shrink fonts to fit more on the slide.
    • Make sure you're not just reading your slides.
    • Make sure you have the appropriate display output adapter for your laptop (the guide should note which adapters the conference / AV team will supply)
