rustdesk-server build with github actions not working

Many thanks to the creators of Rustdesk – it's a really great piece of software.

However, for several months now, the Rustdesk server has not been compiling properly. It would be really good if someone could at least get the build working again using GitHub Actions.

Which builds you mean? Last release was 1.1.14 in January, hence last builds triggered on GitHub Actions was in January as well, and succeeded: https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk-server/actions/workflows/build.yaml

So you are probably asking for a new release?

The last commit was on 22 November. I would like to test this status.
However, a build via the actions is currently not possible.

Last commit does not mean release, and does not trigger the build workflow. So you mean on your fork, the build workflow fails with the latest commit? Check whether the reason might be some step that depends on the correct repo orga/owner, or some secret/variable that it not available in your case.

Would you be able to give us another hint, I'm not sure what I'm missing.

I deleted my fork, created a new one and changed one line for rendezvous_server.rs to enable renaming

Even this action fails, please note I never used any secrets in the past and it compiled fine.

I suggest you do not try to compile the master branch state, but the code of the latest release tag: https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk-server/tree/1.1.14

Ah yeah, so you need to create a branch from this tag.

I think I worked out I need the cli to create a branch from a tag, but even when I do that

Still can't work out how to change the build.yaml from the new branch and the tag 1.1.14

Easiest in you case is to run the workflow of the master branch but checkout the 1.1.14 branch explicitely:

Can't believe it was that easy. It compiled but come across another error so had to set permissions

The only problem is that the newly compiled hbbs doesn't allow rename, even though I changed the rendezvous_server.rs

Sorry you did ask about this before:
When I try to compile on ubuntu with cargo build --release it creates the target/release directory

I copy that file to my docker and when it runs i get this in docker logs
hbbs | exec /usr/bin/hbbs: no such file or directory

When i run file on the github actions complied hbbs
hbbs-jan2026: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), static-pie linked, stripped

When I run it on the file compiled in ubuntu

Coincidentally since 3 days ago, some work has been done on the master branch, including updates to the workflows, toolchains etc. Sadly the build logs have been removed, hence no idea whether it succeeds now or not. But worth to test, to have latest changes included from upcoming 1.1.15 release.

Thank you very much. I thought I synced the fork but I can always delete and start over.

With the change you asked me to do that seems to be working now, apart from the rename not working. Does the below command use the rendezvous_server.rs from tags instead of the one i modified on the branch?

Yes: By default, the checkout action pulls the repo code from the branch/tag the workflow was executed from. But with the ref: option, it can be told to pull any other branch/tag.

Thank you, I reverted the build.yaml and finally got it going with the rename working too
