[Bug, Crash] local changes split view editor crashes when creating a selection by dragging the mouse on the widest available line and going to the end of the line

steps to reproduce (tested in 2025.04 and 2025.05)

1. go to "local changes"
2. go to an unstaged file with changes (didn't test staged files)
3. go to split view, also called side-by-side view (inline view works fine)
4. find the widest line and start a selection by dragging and holding down the mouse
5. release behind the latest character
6. sorucegit is now stuck, unresponsive and will be closed by Windows when trying to interact with it.

Do you mean 2026.04 and 2026.05? It looks like the same one with AvaloniaUI/AvaloniaEdit#518 (comment) which i can not reproduce any more

Uhm yes indeed i meant 2026.05 and 2026.04. My bad. I could trigger it very consistently for both mr and my colleague.

Are there some crash logs in %APPDATA%/SourceGit/crashes? If so, is the stack same with that one in AvaloniaEdit's issue metioned above?

Sorry. I know why I'm not able to reproduce this issue. I just forgot that I've disabled the syntax highlighting.

After enabling syntax highlighting, I reproduced this issue too.

Fixed. It is indeed an issue with AvaloniaEdit: when calculating the maximum width (scroll extent) of the editor, it does not include the width of the caret border. When the cursor is at the end of the longest line, each blink causes the editor to recalculate its size, which leads to a change in the scroll offset and thus enters an infinite loop.
