Fetching Secrets using AZ CLI does not work

I have checked the following:

• I have searched existing issues and found nothing related to my issue.

This bug is:

• making Bruno unusable for me
• slowing me down but I'm able to continue working
• annoying
• this feature was working in a previous version but is broken in the current release.

Describe the bug

When trying to fetch KeyVault secrets using Azure CLI I get the error that Bruno couldn't find the CLI tool.

Both Bruno and Azure CLI are installed using Homebrew and are up-to-date.

I found this other ticket that describes the exact same issue, and the workaround of opening the app using the terminal command open -a Bruno mentioned in that ticket works for me as well. Could this be a regression?

This is a known macOS behavior affecting GUI-launched apps like Bruno. When you launch Bruno by clicking the app icon (Finder/Dock/Spotlight), it doesn't inherit your terminal's full PATH environment.

Why this happens:

Bruno uses syncShellPath() at startup to capture your shell's PATH by running zsh -l -c 'echo "$PATH"'. This creates a login, non-interactive shell, which sources ~/.zprofile but not ~/.zshrc. On macOS, Homebrew's PATH (/opt/homebrew/bin) is often only configured in ~/.zshrc, so Bruno never sees it.

The reason open -a Bruno works is that launching from terminal inherits the full interactive shell environment, including everything in ~/.zshrc.

Troubleshooting — run these to confirm:

# 1. Check if your login shell can find az (this is what Bruno does internally)
zsh -l -c 'which az'

# 2. Check if /etc/paths.d/homebrew exists
cat /etc/paths.d/homebrew

# 3. Check where your Homebrew PATH is configured
grep -l "homebrew" ~/.zprofile ~/.zshrc ~/.zshenv 2>/dev/null

If step 1 fails and step 2 shows "No such file", that confirms the issue.

Fix (recommended):

Create the system-level paths.d entry that makes Homebrew available to all apps, including GUI apps:

echo '/opt/homebrew/bin' | sudo tee /etc/paths.d/homebrew

Then fully quit and relaunch Bruno normally (no need to use the terminal). Azure CLI authentication should work.

Alternative fixes:

Add eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)" to ~/.zprofile instead of (or in addition to) ~/.zshrc
Create a symlink: sudo ln -s /opt/homebrew/bin/az /usr/local/bin/az

Thanks for the quick response.

I have performed the troubleshooting steps:

zsh -l -c 'which az'

this one runs fine, shows the path of az from Homebrew

cat /etc/paths.d/homebrew

this one showed no such file

grep -l "homebrew" ~/.zprofile ~/.zshrc ~/.zshenv 2>/dev/null

this showed zshrc

Per you recommendation, I have executed

echo '/opt/homebrew/bin' | sudo tee /etc/paths.d/homebrew

This solved the issue, thanks!

Just a suggestion: it might make sense to include this info in the error message on MacOS.
