Search NavItems in Sidebar2

Hi

I'm currently using the sidebar2 component and it would be very helpful to have a search box that would filter the List.
In my application (and i think everyone would agree) having this as the 1st item in the list would be the preferred location.

I have looked through all the demos and i don't see an example code on how this could be implemented.

Any help/recommendations would be appreciated
